Benefits of Tourism in Kenya
The benefits of tourism in Kenya fall into two categories. Benefits to the people, and benefits to the country.
Those visiting Kenya benefit in many ways. Unlike visiting other popular tourism destinations, ecotourism in Kenya provides a different sort of experience to the traveller. Instead of merely going on a tourbus and viewing the scenery and staying a hotel passively, tourists get to learn about the country’s biodiversity and appreciate the culture of a fragile community by actively participating in their promotion. This fosters a much closer bond with the country than merely visiting it.
For the country itself, the benefits of tourism are many. Increased awareness of the environment and the ecosystem helps the the cause of the Kenyan people. Also, the influx of tourists creates the demand for many different industries and jobs. Tourism is currently the largest section of the Kenyan industry, contributing the most to it’s GDP. This will only continue to rise.
The benefits of tourism of Kenya are not always isolated from the disadvantages. However, one can attempt to reduce the ill effects of intrusive tourism in a way that maintains their positive aspect. The government of Kenya is trying it’s best to promote ecotourism and preserve the environment.
