The Tourism Industry in Kenya
The tourism industry in Kenya is arguably the largest sector of the country’s economy. Though it competes with the Coffee industry for that honor, it is also extremely fast growing which puts it in a prime spot to stay on top for the foreseeable future.
Tourism in Kenya focuses on it’s various environmental features. These inlclude a large number of national parks totalling 19 in number. Mombasa, which is the second largest city in the entire country is host to Kenya’s coastal tourism industry. Along with Coffee plantations, a view of Mt. Kilimanjaro is one of the most spectular sights available for tourists to see.
Due to the Kenyan crisis in 2007-08, there was a dramatic fall in tourism during that time. However, the tourism industry in Kenya has been picking it’s feet up since. A notable feature is the recent growth of Eco tourism which attempts to improve the bio diversity and culture of the country while at the same time generating a steady stream of revenue from tourism.
For the traveler, there are many benefits that accrue from traveling in Kenya - not the least of which is an experience that is difficult to replicate in any other part of the world. Kenya won the award for the Best leisure destination at the world travel fair in Shanghai in 2008, highlighting it’s resurgence as one of the best places to travel to.
